Hello, I'm Dr. Hannah Riskas
Welcome to my website
About

I am a Doctor of Philosophy in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (La Trobe University, 2025), specialising in the evolutionary ecology of ants. My research examines how worker lifespan, body size, and colony organisation interact to shape survival strategies across diverse ecological contexts. I integrate field experiments, controlled laboratory assays, and advanced statistical approaches, including Bayesian hierarchical and state-space models, to reveal mechanisms underlying ant survival, resource allocation, and nutritional ecology.
My broader expertise spans insect life-history evolution, comparative trait analyses, and nutritional geometry, with fieldwork experience across arid and temperate ecosystems. I am particularly interested in how ecological and evolutionary processes scale from individuals to colonies and communities.
